Wildlife living in harmony with modern farming at Browns Farm.
- Creation of environmental areas for our wildlife to live and breed
- Helping to maintain and preserve our bat population
- Management of habitats for small mammals to ensure survival of our owls
Browns Farm is a working dairy/arable farm where we milk 120 pedigree Holstein Friesian cows and grow on a rotational basis winter wheat, oilseed rape, maize, pea/barley whole crop and 4 year grass leys. Under our conservation areas we are creating habitats for the wildlife as listed: Create grass margins around the outside of fields which provide habitats for nesting birds, insects and small birds. These also provide a safe haven for wildlife at harvest time.
Sow strips of bird seed mixes which provide vital feed for over wintering birds. We leave blocks of land unfarmed to encourage Lapwings and Partridge to breed through summer months. Create new hedges for windbreaks, habitats for nesting birds and provides navigation for our bats. Create and maintain areas of pollen and nectar mixes which provide vital habitat for bees, butterflies and other insects.
