Dawlish Warren is an area of sand dunes, mud flat and beach that lies at the mouth of the Exe. Thousands of birds come to feed, on migration or to spend the winter here.
The sandy cove is popular with day trippers and has numerous rock pools, clear water and relatively safe swimming. The waters are also popular with divers and there are several shipwrecks to explore in the area. This charming village lies on the Heritage Coastline with the nearby Slapton Ley nature reserve attracting walkers.
The beach is an idyllic spot and is safe for swimming with care. It is quieter than other beaches in Torquay due to a steep climb that makes it difficult for prams and disabled access. On the South west coast path there are nearby beaches and cliff-top scenery to explore.
The Mendip Hills AONB covering 198 sq kms is recognised as one of England's most attractive landscapes. The area rises up from the Somerset Levels providing dramatic views of the Severn Estuary and across Somerset.
