A popular destination for those who want to enjoy a lazy day at the beach. Swimming is reasonably safe away from the river mouth and there are a number of sand dunes to explore for wildlife.
Steep steps lead down to this un-commercial beach at one of Dorset’s most recognisable coastal features. Although the water is fairly sheltered near the arch swimmers should be careful as the beach does drop away quite quickly. The undulating cliffs form a challenging section to the Dorset Coast Path, and its associated circular walks.
The sand and shingle beach at the fishing port of Porthlevan stretches three miles southeast along the Loe Bar. Basking sharks, seals and dolphins may be seen in the area.
Situated to the north of Hope Cove and surrounded by outcrops of rock, it is rugged in appearance but sheltered and provides a quieter location, in contrast to other larger popular beaches. Dolphins and seals can often be seen swimming offshore.
Charmouth West, otherwise known as 'The Jurassic Coast', is an extremely scenic beach that stretches for two miles with intervening rock pools between Black Venn and Golden Cap. A heritage coast centre with many interesting local walks.
