Cycling
South West England is the perfect destination for cyclists with terrain to
suit all ages and abilities – on woodland trails, riverside tracks and
breathtaking coastal routes.
Explore the network of spectacular paths in the Dartmoor and Exmoor National
Parks. For a more sedate experience, take the Camel Trail - 121 miles of virtually
level cycling through beautiful Cornwall.
Travel the Wiltshire Cycleway visiting scenic villages such as Lacock and
Marlborough, or discover Dorset through Blackmore
Vale and the Dorset Downs.
Somerset remains relatively unspoilt by traffic and is ideal for flat riding
and family outings. To the north, the West Mendip Hills offer a steeper challenge!
In Gloucestershire’s Forest of Dean, the Forestry Commission has created
the 11 mile Family Cycling Trail whilst the Cotswold Water Park offers gentle
cycling between many lakes.
For those with enough pedal-power, why not take on all 254 miles of the West
Country Way from Padstow harbour to the Bristol
and Bath Railway Path?
The National Cycle Network www.sustrans.co.uk
offers miles of cycle routes on quiet country lanes and traffic-free paths
using easy to follow route signs and connecting towns and villages.
Wherever you cycle, look out for accommodation with the `Cyclists
Welcome’ symbol,
offering facilities such as safe storage for cycles, drying rooms and assistance
with route choice.
