Reserve that includes largest natural freshwater lake in South West England.

  • Migrant birds during mid-March to June and September to October
  • Wild Flowers on shingle ridge during May to July
  • All year round (especially winter) for birds on the Ley and reedbeds

The 211 hectare reserve has resulted from the dynamic interaction of the sea and land. It includes Slapton Lower Ley which is the largest natural freshwater lake in South West England.

The reserve consists of a mixture of habitats including reedbeds, fens, woodland and an extensive shingle bar. There are two birdwatching hides on the site near Torcross and a viewing platform on the public footpath along the nature trail between Slapton Bridge and Slapton Village.
