The National Trust owns 2100 acres of downland surrounding the famous monument, including The Avenue, Kings Barrows Ridge, Normanton Down Barrows and the Cursus, variously interpreted as an ancient racecourse or processional way.
The Trust manages this historic landscape to conserve archaeology, increase access and balance the needs of modern agricultural practice with nature conservation.
Leaflets on recommended walks and archaelogy are obtainable from the Estate Office. There are also a series of guided walks available. An annual Avebury to Stonehenge World Heritage Cycle event takes place in Avebury.
