Dartmouth Castle stands in a superb waters side setting, guarding the entrance to the Dart. Magnificent views and a fascinating past make the Castle the perfect location for a great day out.

From the castle’s battlements, enjoy splendid views of the Dart estuary and coast; listen to the waves as they lap against the shore, where ships have set sail from the time of the crusades to the D-Day landings. For 500 years the Castle has blended with its surroundings and kept in constant preparation for war time service. Visitors can see the remains of the small fortress today, explore the 15th gun tower, see the completely re-created Victorian gun battery and climb to the battlements.

Features include hands-on exhibitions and displays bringing to life the 600-year history of the castle, from Chaucer to World War II. Take time to imagine life in a bygone era. An essential part of any visit to Dartmouth, travel to or from the castle taking a boat trip from Dartmouth quayside along the beautiful wooded estuary of the River Dart.
