Hengistbury West Beach, Bournemouth, Dorset

Designated a site of special scientific interest.

The one-and-a-half kilometre long Hengistbury Head separates Poole Bay and Christchurch Bay and encloses Christchurch Harbour on its landward side. Hengistbury Head is an Ancient Monument, archaeologically it is very interesting. There are nature trails to be explored.

Most of the headland remains undeveloped and has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, because of the wide variety of plant and animal life it supports.

Hengistbury is a south facing pebble beach below imposing limestone cliffs.

DIRECTIONS:

From the A338, follow the A3060 sign for Tuckton Bridge. There are pathways at Southbourne promenade, from the grassed areas to the beach.
