Charmouth West, otherwise known as 'The Jurassic Coast', is an extremely scenic beach that stretches for two miles with intervening rock pools between Black Venn and Golden Cap. A heritage coast centre with many interesting local walks.
The one-and-a-half kilometre long Hengistbury Head separates Poole Bay and Christchurch Bay and encloses Christchurch Harbour on its landward side. Hengistbury Head is an Ancient Monument, archaeologically it is very interesting. There are nature trails to be explored.
This beach is less commercial than the neighbouring ones and is reached by steps that run down the wooded cliff from the castle grounds. Sandy beach with safe, clean bathing water and clear views to the Isle of Wight. The beach is close to the Dorset coastal path and Avon valley walks.
This is an excellent beach with gently sloping sands and safe sheltered swimming. Activities on the water include sailing, windsurfing and diving. The Dorset Coast Path extends in both directions from Swanage Bay, passing through beautiful countryside along this section of coast.
The sheltered nature of this unique cove makes it the ideal place for swimming, snorkelling or just relaxing. During the summer you can take boat trips along the Jurassic Coast. The steps at the East end of the beach lead to Fossil Forest and Mupe Bay with a stunning walk along the cliff top.
